Dwayne (Lead Instructor) is a trainer for the OSHA Training Institute Education Center at Eastern Kentucky University.

He is an Outreach Instructor for the Maritime, Construction, and General Industry 30 hour programs and has trained 100's through the EKU OTI Center.

Dwayne is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Advanced Safety & Health, LLC headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. He has over 25 years experience in occupational safety and fire protection.
 
He holds a Master of Science in Occupational Safety Management and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Prevention and Control/Industrial Risk Management. With Advanced Safety & Health,

Dwayne has worked with clients such as “LG&E Energy Services, Lockheed Martin, Wild Turkey Distilleries, Marine Builders” and many others where he was/is involved in multiple aspects of occupational safety, regulatory compliance, and insurance loss control services.


He has served as a corporate safety and security manager for a large manufacturing company as well as a safety engineer for a U.S. defense contractor working on the production of the Multiple Launch Rocket System and various other weapons projects for the U.S. Army.


He has been a speaker on numerous occasions on various safety topics for the:
”Kentucky Governor's Safety Conference, Hoosier Safety Conference, Kentucky Nurses Association, American Society of Safety Engineers - Regional Professional Development Conference, and Federal Safety & Health Council”

  45 years of experience in environmental systems management and training. Former State (NC) Environmental, safety and health enforcement officer and regional manager. Directed OSHA, DOT and EPA compliance programs for a major textile manufacturer and numerous chemical producers.

Served as the Department Head at Greenville Technical College (SC) for the AS degree program in Environmental Technology, which was an EPA funded training program is nationally Board certified, CET-Certified Environmental Trainer and CEF-Certified Electroplater-Finisher.

12 years of experience in environmental compliance for major manufacturing facilities. An OSHA Authorized Trainer and specialist in HAZWOPER, Industrial Hygiene and DOT HAZMAT training.

A materials scientist and expert in instrumentation. Is nationally Board certified as a Certified
Pool and Spa Operator CPO. ABC board certified as a Biological Wasterwater Operator, Industrial Wastewater Operator and a Wastewater Collections Systems Operator. Is ARRL certified in emergency radio communications and an adjunt instructor at Piedmont Tech College (SC).

Environmental Science from Drexel University. Since 1980 his professional experience has included the application of health and safety knowledge and skills in the fields of hazardous waste site activities, emergency response, construction and industrial operations.

Mr. Shafer specializes in heath and safety training issues relating to hazardous chemicals and wastes. He has developed and implemented company health and safety programs for industry as well as Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry and Emergency Response Plans.

  He has developed and presented many comprehensive training courses for hazardous waste operations and emergency response personnel. He has presented over 500 training courses for agencies including the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, California EPA, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and many large and small private firms and non-profit organizations.

Kenneth has over twenty-seven (27) years of experience in the Oil & Gas production, service, and fabrication industries during which time he have performed duties as a consultant and instructor for several Safety, Health, and Environmental compliance companies.

He holds a bachelor’s degree from Nicholls State University in General Studies with course concentrations in both Business Administration and Petroleum Safety Service. He continued education and professional development throughout his work history in the Safety, Health and Environmental fields from L.S.U., Texas A&M, the DEQ (Department of Environmental Quality), the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the CICB (Crane Inspection and Certification Bureau).
